The Missing Link to Success
A lot of people say success is down to mindset and strategy.
I totally disagree with this.
Or I should say that this statement is MISSING one of the MAJOR INGREDIENTS needed to achieve top-level happiness and success.
It’s missing something so profound that if you lack proficiency in this area it has the power to sabotage BOTH your mindset AND your ability to push forward in your business, no matter how good your strategy is..
What am I talking about?

Or I should say that this statement is MISSING one of the MAJOR INGREDIENTS needed to achieve top-level happiness and success.
It’s missing something so profound that if you lack proficiency in this area it has the power to sabotage BOTH your mindset AND your ability to push forward in your business, no matter how good your strategy is.
What am I talking about?
Well first let’s look at the functioning of your brain.
To simplify this post I’m going to say that you have an area of your brain that’s responsible for thinking. So this part of your brain is activated when you are practicing your positive thinking strategies, gratitude exercises, and other mindset techniques. As well as when you are focused and working hard through your daily to-do list (acting out on your strategy).
So this is great. You have a positive mindset and you have this amazing strategy that will enable you to push forward and make this profitable life for yourself.
This surely means success is inevitable right?
Well actually no, it’s not that simple.
The problem is that you have another part of your brain, which we will again simplify in this post and call it your emotional brain. A fundamental part of your brain that has the power to hijack your thinking brain completely and run the show. In fact, when the Emotional brain takes over, it actually causes your thinking brain to effectively switch off completely.
Your emotional brain is what causes you to procrastinate when you know you need to get that work done.
Your emotional brain is what causes you to play it small and keep you hiding in the shadows. Even when your thinking brain knows you have the ability to make it as a leader and play it large.
Your Emotional brain is what causes you to struggle to raise your prices or to ask for that promotion. Even though your thinking brain knows you bring a lot of value to your clients and are worthy of that next level success.
Your emotional brain is what causes you to doubt yourself, lose confidence in yourself or get overwhelmed in the moment as you care far too much what people think.

Ultimately your emotional brain has the power to hijack your life, behaviors and thoughts. As well as hijacking your attempts to grow your business.
No matter how many mindset techniques you practice or what amazing strategies you have.
But surely if you are constantly working to be positive in mind – your emotions will naturally reflect this right?
Sorry wrong again.
Well sort of.
Of course if you are constantly practicing positive thinking and so on, of course it’s going to have some positive effect on our emotions in comparison to someone who didn’t practice these techniques.
But our overall ability to self regulate is a learnt skill that can be traced back to our early childhood experiences.
Emotional regulation goes much deeper than positive thinking.
From ages 0 to 7, our brain is effectively a blank slate. The way we view ourselves, other people and the world around us is determined as we get older as a direct result of the experiences that occur during this timeframe. The wiring of our brain as we get older effectively is a reflection of what we have learnt during these early years.
And if we look at the psychological research as many as 40% of the population have not had the positive childhood experiences needed, to learn the emotional regulation skills that will ebable them to thrive as they move throughout the lifespan.
The other problem is that your emotional brain is easily triggered by subconscious memories that run deep under your conscious awareness.
Memories that you’ve probably forgotten about, that for many of us are driven by negative experiences that occurred during our earlier years.
Experiences of when we were made to feel we are not good enough.
Experiences where we were made to feel that we had to be perfect to be accepted.
Experiences where we were made to feel that our opinion or feelings don’t matter.
Experiences where we were made to feel that we were NOT ENOUGH.
These memories of not being enough, simmer away directly underneath our conscious awareness.
These subconscious memories can show up and cause our Emotional brain to take over every time we try to move forward.
And this is why so many otherwise capable people get stuck.
