Your attachment style creates a blueprint in which shapes the relationship that you have with yourself, other people (romantic partners, family, children and yes… clients, employees, business partners etc etc). As well as the lens in which you see the world.

It also affects the relationship that you have with money and hence influences your ability to achieve financial freedom. 

Entrepreneurs with a dominant secure attachment typically have a relationship with success and wealth that is energetically aligned from a place of safety, security and trust. You have a healthy connection with money that ripples out into your life in the bigger picture and although you may still experience blocks or fluctuations within your financial world, you have an innate trust that things will work out:

That money will always be there to support you and that it will always have your back.

Entrepreneurs with a dominant secure attachment typically have a relationship with success and wealth that is energetically aligned from a place of safety, security and trust. If you have a secure attachment to money your approach to business will come from a place of abundance, trust and self-assurance, rather than a place of lack, scarcity or need. Your energy will therefore directly reflect this, and although there may still be things that need attention for you to reach your higher goals, you are more likely to step out of your comfort zone and take on challenges within your business with confidence and self-assurance. You will have a deeper reasoning within your business that goes beyond the desire to just ‘make money’.  As a result, you are likely to experience higher success, sales and client attraction, in comparison to the ‘needy or pushy energy’ that the other attachment styles often unconsciously radiate (that is likely to repel clients and result in lower overall sales).

What it does mean however is that you are quickly able to shift to a solution focused mindset where you can reflect, plan, soothe any distressing emotions and then act accordingly (from a place that is not driven by anxiety, fear or lack) so that things continue to move forward. Therefore as you are more able to deal with setbacks and you are willing to get support and ask for help when necessary, you are likely to enjoy greater success in the long run.

Although your quiz results suggest that your dominant style is Secure, it’s important to note that we all fall onto a spectrum and therefore often have a secondary attachment style that can affect our thoughts, feelings and behaviours (and hence influence the success in our business) depending on the situation and the people that we are with.  It is therefore recommended that you therefore become familiar with the other attachment classifications so that you can recognise if certain situations or people trigger blocks to your success or different responses.

Here are an overview of the 3 other Attachment Styles and how they impact our business

Ambivalent Attachment 

Entrepreneurs who have an ambivalent attachment style with money might exhibit some or all of the following thoughts, feelings and traits:

  • They put other people’s needs before their own and often overgive to clients without seeing the financial rewards in their bank account
  • They don’t ask for what they are worth because of imposter type feelings, self doubt or low confidence
  • They struggle to trust their own decisions and seek external approval
  • They fear that people will not like or respect the ‘real them’
  • They don’t feel deserving of high income and success
  • They can have a lot of worries, fear or anxiety when money isn’t there as they are not sure when it will come again.
  • When money is not there, there is a feeling of abandonment that often gets activated
  • They have a core belief that their needs will not be met

Dismissive Avoidant Attachment

Entrepreneurs who have a dominant Dismissive avoidant attachment style with money might exhibit some or all of the following qualities:

  • They often have a compulsive need to set big goals or make money
  • They connect their worth on their income earning ability or external achievements and take it very personally as if THEY have failed when things don’t go to plan.
  • Believe they have to work really hard to achieve the success they crave and are often ‘workaholics’
  • When hitting a big goal, these types don’t feel satisfied for long and often move straight to the next goal with little personal celebration over their success. This often causes them to have a deep rooted feeling that ‘something is missing’.
  • They often pursue making money over relationships and love. Therefore, often struggle to have success in all areas of their life (money, love and health).
  • They shut down from money when things get stressful (for example when business isn’t going the way they hoped or when an unexpected credit card bill needs to be paid they may just ignore it)
  • They often do not like to delegate tasks to others or ask for help therefore not only can this hold you back from creating next level wealth, it also puts these types at risk of burnout.

Fearful Avoidant Attachment

Entrepreneurs who have a dominant Fearful Avoidant attachment style with money might demonstrate the following thoughts, feelings and traits:

  • They are often independent and often feel that they have not ever really fitted in; although on a deeper level they crave to feel acceptance and a sense of belonging.
  • They experience emotional highs and lows with money, in life and in their business
  • Although they want to have the success / money / love, it is also connected to their greatest fear.
  • They have a deep-rooted fear of rejection that can cause these types to play it safe and stop them from stepping out into their power
  • They have a push / pull relationship with money / love. They want the success but then can be inconsistent and sabotage themselves by getting in their own way whenever things start to improve.
  • They might cling to money when there is not enough but then overspend when it is in abundance.
  • Their income is often not consistent with higher income months followed by lower income months.

Origin of Secure Attachment

A secure attachment is typically rooted back to a childhood where the the child’s main early relationships (parents, peers, significant others) were consistent and sensitive to the child’s emotional needs. Whilst giving them the space to develop their own autonomy and independence.   As a result a person with secure attachment has the inner security and belief that others are supportive in times of need that generally follows them throughout adulthood. They tend to be more emotionally prepared for life’s challenges and have the inner skills needed to thrive.

Alternatively a person with secure attachment may have had a less than ideal childhood but they have done lots of inner and emotional mastery work that has enabled them to rewire their brain for self mastery and success.
